What's new
What changed in each public beta of Chop, the newest first.
The version you have is in Chop > About Chop (Version, feedback and licences). To get the newest one, download Chop again from the home page and put it in Applications in place of the old one (Install Chop).
Chop 0.0.10
6 October 2026.
Changed
- Fit is a key, not a switch. Each press stretches the sample to the track's Bars: what Fit sample to N bars in the Bars menu did, an item that is gone. Changing Bars still stretches nothing: press Fit again. See Make a loop exactly N bars long.
- Fit also fills the gaps between blocks. Every block that ends before the next one starts is made longer, up to it: on the grid with Place: grid, right up to it with Place: free; the last block up to the end of the pattern. No block is made shorter. See Fill the gaps between blocks.
- One-shots have Timing on Original. There is no Fit switch to turn off: a track plays at its original speed with Timing on Original, and follows the tempo with Stretch, Varispeed and Beats. A sample shorter than a beat loads on Original; a longer one loaded into a track left on Original goes back to Stretch. See Play a sample at its original speed.
- In the Playback group, Bars is now in the top row with Fit under it, and Placement is under Timing.
- Project files have a new form. In a project saved by an earlier version, a track with Fit off opens with Timing on Original and plays as before; earlier versions of Chop do not open a project saved by this one. See Projects and versions of Chop.
Chop 0.0.9
5 October 2026.
Changed
- A resized block always stretches its slice. Dragging the right edge of a block in the sequence lane makes its slice longer or shorter, in every Timing and with Fit on or off. Before, with Beats, Original or Fit off the block was only cut, and could not get longer than its slice. To cut a block, trim it in the waveform. See Make a block longer or shorter.
- Project files have a new form. Projects saved by earlier versions open and sound as they did; earlier versions of Chop do not open a project saved by this one. See Projects and versions of Chop.
- Multitrack: the TRACKS and AUTOMATION titles are larger, the size of the block names on the Sample screen.
Fixed
- The Colour submenu of the track menu showed empty rows. Each colour is now a swatch, with a tick on the track's current one. See Name and colour a track.
- Multitrack: parts placed one right after the other could play only their first slice, when their variation had its start marker moved in. Parts now play in the order they show, each to its end. The exported file had the same fault.
- Export and Resample: a sample preview that was still playing ended up in the file. Both now stop it first.
- A sample preview stopped right after it started could play on.
- A project opened with the track and the part of the project before it still selected, so Delete could remove a part nobody had clicked. A project now opens on track 1 with nothing selected.
- A track named after its sample kept that name when another sample was loaded into it. The name now follows the sample until you rename the track.
- MIDI: a controller mapped to a Selected slice parameter, moved quickly with many slices selected, could leave the project behind what you heard. Every move now reaches the project.
- A plugin that could not load was tried again at every edit of its track. It is now tried again only after a scan, when its slot changes or when a project opens.
- VST3 Plugins: after a complete scan, files that had failed and were no longer installed could stay in the list.
- The plugin scan starts each file sooner.
